Get Proper Help For Your Teeth

Joe Lawrence

If your teeth are damaged, weak or in need of cosmetic help, then you can go a few different routes to correct the issues you are dealing with. Your dentist may suggest going with porcelain veneers, crowns,  a bridge or a sealant. It's important for you to know what each has to offer so you can get your mouth in better shape in a way that's going to work best for you.

Porcelain veneers

Veneers can be used to help correct many different dental issues with some of the more common ones being thin enamel, chipped teeth, discoloration, breaks, fractures, gaps and even crookedness. Veneers are made in a dental lab using an impression of your mouth so they fit just right.

Your teeth will be taken down some in size, just enough to make room for the veneers and brought to a shape that ensures they can be put on securely. The veneers will be cemented onto them so you will leave the office with stronger, better-looking teeth.

Dental crowns

Dental crowns are another option. They can be used to correct all the same problems that porcelain veneers can. A crown is generally made from metal and then porcelain is put on the outer surface to give it a natural look. However, you can choose to go with a full metal crown if this is something you would like.

The crown will also be made in a lab, using an impression for a good fit. One thing you should understand when choosing between the two is a crown usually requires more of your natural tooth to be brought down in size because it has a bit more thickness to it.

Dental bridges

If you are missing one, or a few of your teeth, then a dental bridge may a good way for you to replace them. This is especially true if your other teeth also have damage or other problems with them. A bridge is one solid piece that as both crowns on it and whole replacement teeth.

The teeth that will be counted on to support the crowns can have some issues, but they still need to be in good enough shape to take the added stress of the crown and the accompanied bridge.

Sealant

If your problem with your teeth is due to small chips along the top or a lack of enamel that puts you at greater risk of cavities, then sealant may be a good fit. The sealant is painted on where it will dry to give you an added barrier of protection. You want to make sure you make it to your future appointments (from local professionals such as http://www.aaronbirchdds.com/) so the dentist can reapply it if it has worn down.

By having your teeth taken care of as soon as you can, you can help prevent yourself from ending up with bigger problems that will require more extensive treatment.
