2 Natural Rinses To Prevent Your Dental Implant From Failing During Pregnancy

Joe Lawrence

A healthy dental implant relies heavily on a healthy foundation. Dental implants use the gum tissue around your teeth in order to remain stable and in place for years. Infected or damaged gum tissue can result in the dental implant falling out prematurely. During pregnancy, an increase in hormonal activity in your body creates a playground for bacteria in your mouth. This often results in more bacteria infections and an increased chance of gum disease. The bacteria will slowly eat away at your healthy gum tissue until your gums begin receding. By this time, it is usually too late to save your dental implant, and it will fail. Fortunately, there a few natural rinses that you can use during pregnancy to prevent your dental implant from failing and to keep bacteria at bay.

Lime Oil Rinse

Lime oil is cold pressed from the skin of limes in order to be used for body products and medicinal methods. The oil taken from a lime contains antibacterial properties that help to treat infections and prevent bacteria growth. A lime oil rinse will help to keep your dental implant clean during your pregnancy. The rinse can be created by setting a small pot of water on the stove to boil. Once the water boils, add five to ten drops of lime oil to the mixture. Immediately remove the pot from the stove and allow the mixture to sit for a few minutes. Immediately after your meals, use the rinse to clean your entire mouth. The lime oil rinse should also be used after you eat snacks in order to clean away leftover food and plaque.

Myrtle Rinse

Myrtle leaves are commonly used to create herbal teas because of their smell. They produce a strong and pleasant taste when converted into tea form. In addition, myrtle leaves contain healing properties in the form of antibacterials and antivirals. These properties help to quickly remove infection from the body when taken as a tea or rinse. In order to create a myrtle rinse, place a handful of the leaves in a medium sized bowl of water. Pour hot water over the leaves and allow the leaves to soak overnight. In the morning, you should be able to smell the myrtle rinse. Use the rinse to target the gumline around your dental implant.

It is easy to overlook the maintenance of your dental implant during pregnancy. A poorly maintained implant will quickly result in it failing. Therefore, use these rinses to help keep your mouth and implant clean.
