Think About Using Dental Implants

Joe Lawrence

If you have to have some teeth extracted or you have permanently lost some teeth, you may feel self-conscious over the fact that you have empty spaces in your mouth. That means that you are less likely to smile and less likely to feel confident about yourself. You don't have to feel that way. There are options for you to take advantage of when it comes to masking the fact that you have missing teeth. One thing that you can do is to get dental implants

Dental Implants

These implants are basically artificial tooth roots. They act in the same way and can anchor a denture, a partial, or just a replacement tooth. The implant itself is a post inserted into your jaw bone, in the socket where your tooth was. Once the bone has grown over the base of the post and the post has integrated into your bone, the post will be as secure as the root of your other teeth. It will also be ready to act as the anchor for whatever solution you and your dentist came up with. The tooth, anchor, or partial can then be attached to the post of the implant or several implants if that is the choice you and your dentist chose to use. You will find a lot of benefits from using dental implants.

Bone Retention

One benefit is that you will be able to retain most, if not all, of the bone in your jaw. On top of supporting your teeth, the roots of your teeth will also help keep the bones in your jaw strong. As you chew, the vibrations go down your teeth's roots and into your jaw, making them strong. Plus, the sockets of your teeth help to give your bone structure. When you have missing teeth, the lack of roots lets the sockets disappear, and the vibrations that kept your jawbones strong disappear so that the bone will be resorbed into your body. That can cause your face's whole structure to change since the way your face looks depends on the underlying bones to get its look.

If you have lost teeth, for whatever reason, you may not feel great about how you look. You may also want to get some kind of replacement for your teeth so that you have better functionality and so that you can eat any food that you want to eat. Dental implants can help you with both things.
